Evaluate the effect of entrance resident examination and some related factors on Hanoi Medical University students via alpha index on Electroencephalogram

ABSTRACT 

Alpha wave appears in Electroencephalogram (EEG) in the quiet and calm states, increased in relax and decreased in stress states.

Objectives

To evaluate the relationship between factors such as stress, family or friend relationship, learning ability, major, home town with the changing of occipital alpha index.

Methods

Occipital alpha index in EEG of 14 students was compared between 2 times, right before and 2 month before the exam to be resident doctor, data were calculated in the relationship with other factors through interview and self studying questionnaire such as stress, family or friend relationship…

Results

Those students who have stress, family is in the countryside, have regularly conflict with friend have significant decreased of occipital alpha index in EEG right before the exam compared with 2 months before. Some other factors such as major (specialized studying), regularly sharing with family, friend and learning capacity show no different in the occipital alpha index between these 2 recorded times.

Conclusion

Occipital alpha index was affected by factors such as stress, come from countryside, regularly have conflict with friend in students those going to have the entrance resident examination.
